First Annual Sporting Clay Tournament

On the morning of our Sporting Clay Tournament, Blue Sky Acres’ staff and board arrived early at the 17 South Rod and Gun Club. We were fortunate to have fantastic weather that day and a great turn out! Teams from the Tybee Island Police Department, Coca Cola, Morgan Corp and RBL Supply Chain Consulting all participated in the event.

Mike Mullings with 17 South Rod and Gun Club and his team were wonderful and there was a fantastic atmosphere of fun and enjoyment throughout the day.

Board member and Job Mentor, Larry Fort, spoke at the presentation during lunch about our supported employment program and Matthew, one of our supported staff members stood with him. Prior to the presentation, there was some free time so Matthew went out to the pond and with some help, caught almost a three pound bass! There has been some discussion about adding a fishing tournament to the event for the kids next year.

Bill Williams with RBL Supply Chain Consulting announced the winners of the tournament. The winning team was sponsored by Coca Cola with Jackie Williams, Chad Sherrod, Josh Parker and Rick Terrell, who took home a free round at the 17 South Rod and Gun Club. Garrett Hodges won top shooter, making 48 out of 50 of his shots, and won a $100 Bass Pro gift card.

The trophies for the event were handmade with assistance from our supported employees, making for a very special giveaway. There were also gag prizes for the lowest scoring team and individuals.

We managed to raise just over $10,500 at this tournament, taking home just under $7,000! Earlier in the month, the board decided that the proceeds from the event would go towards our growing supported employment program. We were very excited about the results, especially because it was our very first fundraiser of this type.

We would like to say a huge thank you again to all of the amazing teams who participated and also to our sponsors, RBL Supply Chain Consulting, who sponsored the event and Shuman Heating and Shuman Plumbing who covered the catering costs.

We already have a date down on the calendar to do another tournament on September 16th and know that next year is going to be even better!
