BSA’s First Movie Night Proves to be a Great Success!
From the desk of Jackie Garman
At Blue Sky Acres we are all about relationships, especially with our students who are the heartbeat of our programs. On Saturday, October 15, we hosted a Movie Night for students in our Equine Activities Program. Grace Community Church allowed us to gather in their Education Center. Eight of our fantastic students showed up to have some fun with a large group of their favorite volunteers.
We started the night by making thank you cards together to send to our wonderful BSA donors. The students created unique “horse” handprints on the front of the cards and then described on the inside how it makes them feel when they come to BSA. It was messy of course but a ton of fun!
We enjoyed pizza, grapes and some fantastic cupcakes and cookies together before starting the movie. Everyone brought camping chairs to simulate a drive-in theater and we snacked on popcorn while we watched Disney’s Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron. Most of our students had seen the movie before, some many times as a few quoted the dialogue and even acted out the exciting galloping scenes! It was a lot of fun!
We offered this night as another way to continue to connect with our students but also as a time for mom and dad to go on a date night or run some errands. As parents came to pick up their kids we heard great comments that they all had a really good time. Everyone went home with full bellies, smiles and memories from a happy night. That is a success in my book!
