BSA Golf Tournament Results
We are so excited to announce that we were finally able to hold our golf tournament fundraiser and the weather was absolutely amazing! The event, sponsored by ACC Construction Company and Georgia Ports Authority was held at Crosswinds Golf Club on Friday, April 22. We could not have pulled it off without a lot of help from Steve Taylor (ACC) and Chris Driggers (Georgia Ports) who contributed a lot of time and energy helping to put the tournament together. Our original plan was to hold the tournament at the Club at Savannah Harbor but after our two weather cancellations, they had no more openings before shutting down for renovations. We got in touch with Crosswinds Golf Club who generously moved their schedule around in order to accommodate us. In the end, 33 teams of four participated in the event through their company sponsorships.
We were especially thankful for a beautiful day that Friday, after all of our previous weather challenges! The players arrived early and there was a feeling of excitement in the air as they purchased mulligans, string, and raffle tickets. They made their way to the green for some quick practice and a little before 1:30 began lining up their golf carts for the shotgun start. Chick Fila in Rincon made a generous donation of sandwiches for the golfers' lunches. Once the event started, our staff member, Matthew Redhead, drove a golf cart around the course, taking beverages to the players, with assistance from Karen, his job coach. Matthew has Down Syndrome and though he sometimes struggles to communicate, he had no trouble pointing to himself several times that day saying, “happy.” The players were very friendly with him, giving him high fives and fist bumps. One team even let him hit a golf ball. He held the putt correctly and hit the golf ball beautifully...right into the woods! This was still an extremely impressive feat as golf balls are not easy to hit!
A delicious catered dinner was provided by Crosswinds Golf Club at the end of the day, and I (Hallie) gave an overview of BSA’s programs as we all celebrated the success of the nonprofit’s very first fundraiser. The Industrial Company sponsored the team that won first place in the tournament, second place was won by the team sponsored by RBL Supply Chain Consulting and the team sponsored by Vos Electric came in third.
One of the biggest things we celebrated was the success of our very first fundraiser! Not only did we receive $41,000 in funds from the event itself, but that night we also received an anonymous donation of $30,000! All of the funds raised will go to our capital campaign account and bring us to a total of over $100,000 to be set aside to use for the purchase and development of our permanent home. Without God, none of this could have happened and He was in even the smallest details of making the event a success! We are so very thankful for all that He has done in bringing us to this point and we know that it is just the beginning of the incredible journey that He is taking us on!
