BSA Attends Night of Champions

Two Blue Sky Acres staff members and three board members attended the Night of Champions in support of the Low Country Down Syndrome Society on April 14th, 2022. The purpose of the Night of Champions is to promote hiring people with disabilities and throughout the night they feature individuals and the companies they work for. An estimated 600 people were in attendance that night!

Matthew was recognized as a recipient of the award in a previous year. Lynette Bragg, the CEO of B&B, was recognized that night with the Presidents' award. Blue Sky Acres works very closely with B&B in our supported employment program.

An amazing connection also happened leading up to this night. Karen, who is also employed by B&B as the Job Coach for our supported employees, went into New Life Flowers and Gifts in Rincon to get a boutonniere for Matthew. While she was inside, she saw some magazines with an article about Blue Sky Acres' Executive Director, Hallie Myers, and asked if she could take a couple. She opened up the magazine to show the woman behind the counter who the boutonniere was for and the woman standing beside her happened to see it. She pointed to Erin's picture, saying, "That's my grandaughter!" Karen told them she was taking them to the Night of Champions and New Life gave her a necklace for Erin and gave her the money back for the boutonniere.

Here are a few more pictures from the night.
