Blue Sky Acres hosts a day of F-U-N!
~From the desk of Jackie Garman, Program Director
On July 17, Blue Sky Acres decided to step away from the summer camp norm and host a 1-day event with a VBS vibe. Kids arrived at 10:00 and jumped right into praise & worship time followed by crazy games including ball relays with soup ladles and baskets, pool noodles and beach balls! Hula hoops were passed up, over and through a line of kids and adults while a rock-paper-scissors challenge determined who would make it successfully across the gym.
Our Bible lesson was about the many names of God and how He reveals himself more personally through each one. These different names and their meanings help us to know Him deeper and show us who He is. Each child even got to hear what their name meant. The memory verse that went along with the lesson was Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” Our teacher Ms. Leslie Williams showed pictures of real-life examples of towers and even had a small wooden castle model on display. This was perfect for one child, Ella who is blind. She was able to touch and feel the tall castle towers and flags on top getting a picture of how our God is mighty like a tall tower and we can run to Him when we need help and safety. Everyone had fun saying the names like El Shaddai, Elohim, El Elyon, and El Roi.
Our craft time continued the name theme as each child decorated a personalized BSA pillowcase with fabric markers and stencils. By the end of our fun morning, full of more great songs and wild games everyone was ready to EAT! We all enjoyed Chick-fil-A nuggets, grapes, watermelon, chips and of course ice cream!
Overall the BSA Fun Day was a great success and everyone left with a full belly, a song in their hearts and more knowledge of who God is. We also want to give a big thank you to Rincon Church of God for the use of their gym in the Family Life Center.
